Barbara Gervase, Esq.
Barbara is the managing and founding partner of the Law Office of Barbara Gervase P.C. She has been practicing law since 1985. She has devoted her practice to the areas of matrimonial, family and real estate law. Barbara is a member of the Matrimonial Committee, Real Estate Committee and Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association.
She is the immediate past president of the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association. She is the co-chairperson of the Golf Outing Committee for the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association which is dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research and awareness. She sits on the Judiciary Committee of the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association. She also volunteers her time to serve on a panel for the Children’s Law Center located in the Nassau County Family Court.
Barbara is a trained mediator and collaborative attorney. She is a member of the fee dispute panel of the Nassau County Bar Association which arbitrates fee disputes between attorneys and their clients in matrimonial proceedings.
She is a past president of the Long Island chapter of the National Association of Professional Mortgage Women. She is a frequent lecturer at first time home buyer’s seminars.
Barbara graduated from Southwestern University School of Law and Central Connecticut State University with honors. She lives on Long Island with her husband.
Barbara Gervase, P.C
Barbara has been admitted to the practice of law since 1992. Barbara attended Cardozo School of Law, in her third year of law school she had the unique privilege of interning for the late Honorable William B. Rigler, Supreme Court, Kings County. Also while in her third year of law School, Barbara was published in the New York State Family Law Review Vol 23 March 1991 “Where do babies come from”. After graduating Law School Barbara devoted herself to the practice of Matrimonial & Family Law. She is a seasoned litigator and handles most of the firm’s contested litigation. Barbara joined the firm in 2005 and has brought with her a wealth of knowledge and litigation experience.
In addition to providing excellence to our client’s, Barbara is also on the Second Department Attorney For Children’s panel and has zealously represented numerous children residing in Nassau County. She is also on the Nassau County assigned Counsel Legal Defense Panel in Family Court, Nassau County.
Barbara is currently the Vice Chair of the Nassau County Family Court Law & Procedure Committee, a member of the Matrimonial Law Section of the Nassau County Bar Association and a guest lecturer for the Nassau County Bar Association Academy of Law and the New York State Bar Association.
Barbara was active in the argument in the Matter of Brooke S.B. v. Elizabeth A.C.C, 28 NY 3d 1 2016, and lead counsel in the lower Court, co-counsel in the Court ofh Appeals in the companion case of Estrallita A. V. Jennifer L.D., which granted standing to non biological, non adoptive persons and reversed 25 year old case law. Barbara was lead counsel on a subsequent case in Family Court, Nassau County,
Matter of Chimienti v. Perperis, 2019 NY Slip Op 2866, wherein the trial court, affirmed by the Appellate Division, further expanded the rights of non biological, non adoptive parents seeking custody to include an equitable estoppel test.
Barbara has been a resident of Nassau County for the last 24 years where she resided and raised her family.
